Testing times for the UK economy

I’m still out of the markets, which is a good thing because they don’t seem to be reacting the way I would have predicted. With the current UK economic worries I would have expected the FTSE to be falling, however is seems to be doing well.
There has been much in the news lately surrounding the soaring food and fuel prices. I would have expected this, coupled with the struggling property market to have had an adverse effect on the markets.
Ah well, I guess all this goes to show that I’m no expert and its just as well I’m of the markets! (for now).

I ‘m sure I did the right thing, I sold all my holdings just before the start of 2008 and since then the markets have been very grim. Have I any regrets? You bet I sold a chunk of gold at the start of a massive upward curve!
However, I remember when I sold that gold, I was SO relieved, I actually made some profit after looking at a big loss. So, yes, I am kicking myself but I also fully understand why I sold when I did.
Other regrets? Well, yes, I wish I’d shorted the FTSE when I was so sure it was going down J.
Overall, I’m so relieved I “went flat” when I did, I could be looking at heavy losses if I’d stayed in the markets. At the moment I’m looking for a window to get back onboard, but I just can’t see it at the moment.
Share dealing is way down my list at the moment; the house price drop is my main concern as I’m trying to sell my home.
Game Over!

Sorry for the long delay but today seemed like a good time to conclude this project. The markets are in turmoil again and the feds have slashed the interest rates.
Luckily for me, I’d already taken as much hammering I could from the markets late last year and I bailed for the final time. I closed my accounts and withdrew my funds.
Since I began my venture into the markets I had made a small profit, but I’d certainly had to earn it. Will I be back? Maybe

Wow, so much has happened since my last post, I’ve only just caught my breath. Well the banking turmoil is continuing but recently took an amazing twist.
If I may quote my last post: “I might just forget the whole thing and go for a savings account”, little did I know that’s where the next drama would unfold.
Over the past few days the UK media has been dominated by a ‘Bank Run’ panic taking place at Northern Rock (UK building society). The panic was started when Northern Rock approached the Bank of England to lend funds.
After the Bank of England made guarantees to secure customers saving the debacle appears to be settling down. Maybe being a little greedy I’ve taken a sneaky put and bought a very small amount of NRK.
Since my last post I managed to offload my precious metal funds at a profit which was a huge relief. I’ve decided that the price of Gold has a mind of its own and vowed never to dabble again.
Overall, I’m still well down since the recent declines but I think I have faired better than some.
The Turmoil Continues

The one consolation I have regarding the recent stock market turmoil is that I am not online, I’m sure many other investors are puking into their waste bins.
OK, I’ve took a bit hit, even though I’d already sold most of my shares. I’m most disappointed because the only holdings I didn’t sell were my precious metals, I thought they were I good holding to have in a market crash, looks like I was wrong.
Today, my hit was 12% which is pretty bad, but I plan to hold, the US Fed have reduced interest rates which should help the situation.
Long term plan, we’ll I might just forget the whole thing and go for a savings account! Seriously, this whole situation has wiped out any gains I might have made this year. IF it wasn’t for the booming china economy I would be looking at a big loss.
I’m still learning but my recent lessons have been very expensive!
